And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him
-- Colossians 3:17
We believe that service is an integral part of what we do here in Veritas. And although we're all busy with other things such as research, coursework, and church activities, we strongly believe that service plays a critical role in our development as Christian graduate students and as individuals seeking to learn more about the Christian faith. (Not to mention that service can also provide a welcome break from the usual graduate school stuff!) Hence, our service events!
Our service opportunities can be roughly divided into three types: weekly Homeless Ministry, semesterly service nights, and other volunteer-led activites.
Homeless Ministry (Weekly)
Everybody Veritas Service Night (Semesterly)
Service night is a fun time where we come together as a community to perform simple acts of service. Some examples of what you may find yourself helping with: sandwich-making and baking on a large scale for the homeless ministry; sorting socks and toiletries for distribution; and/or creating activity packets for children staying at the Oakland Children's Hospital. We also generally spend plenty of time just hanging out and getting to know one another over games and snacks.
Other Volunteer-led Events (Help us plan some!)
You can check out the calendar to the right to see our upcoming service opportunities so far.
Where we've served:
Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.
