The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
~ Psalm 23:1-3 (esv)
The rapid pace and chaos of grad school can easily take center stage drown out the thing which matter most in life: God. For this reason, Veritas participates in two retreats each year to help people set the challenges of daily life aside and dedicate a weekend solely to seeking God.
This year's Fall Retreat
will be held at Alliance Redwoods
, north of the Bay Area. The fall retreats have been a great time to get to know more people in the fellowship before the hectic pace of the semester takes hold. All retreats are student organized. Some have had professional speakers, while others have featured talks by students. Previous themes include sabbath and fasting.
The Winter Retreat
is held at Camp Hammer
, located south of the bay near Big Basin Redwoods State Park. This retreat combines graduate Christian fellowships from several schools in the bay area, including Stanford, UC San Francisco and UC Santa Cruz. Past speakers have ranged from Rev. Julie Khoo, a youth pastor in Malaysia, to Rev. Josh McPaul
, pastor of a church plant close by in Oakland.
